Originally published in the Doctrine
of Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS),
under the direction of Joseph Smith Jr.. The Lectures of Faith were the
'Doctrine' part of the Doctrine and Covenants. What is today
published as the Doctrine and Covenants by the LDS Church, headquartered
in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ,
headquartered in MO. was at the time of the Prophet Joseph Smith
referred to as the Book of Commandments, a part of the Doctrine and
Covenants. The Lectures of Faith were considered doctrine by
the "Utah" LDS (Mormons) until they were no longer considered
doctrinal by the church as a result of changes to church beliefs under
President Heber J. Grant
